Shared Palm Reader Unclean, Face Recognition A Dream reported by Oriental Daily

Leisure and Cultural Services Department is again accused of abusing public funds. This department has bought dozens of Palm Readers for 800, 000yuan and used them in several places within its control in the past 6 years. The reader collects employee’s palm prints for attendance which gave rise to employees’ complaints. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department didn’t stop using the palm readers until employees lodged a complaint against it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data last year. Although the Leisure and Cultural Services Department emphasized that the palm readers have already been transferred to a “Right Department”, the Labor Union was not satisfied that the Leisure and Cultural Services Department still did not give a clear explanation that where those personal information was used and decided to work with the Audit Commission to ask for initiative investigation in this month.
